The Weather Network and Eye Airports deliver real-time international weather forecasts to passengers across UK airports
UK airport advertising expert, Eye Airports, has teamed up with the UK’s local weather provider, The Weather Network to offer real-time weather information at airport locations across the UK.
Passengers flying to and from major UK destinations will be able to see up-to-the-minute local and international weather forecasts on state-of-the-art digital advertising screens around the airports.
Following a successful campaign at Manchester Airport, the 70-inch high definition digital screens have today been rolled out exclusively to Eye Airports’ advertising sites at London Gatwick, London Stansted, East Midlands, Newcastle International, Belfast International, Southampton and Bournemouth airports.
The campaign benefits from a stream of live information from The Weather Network delivered and powered by the latest ‘BroadSign’ cloud-based, digital signage software. This helps maximise engagement with passengers through fresh, frequently updated, relevant weather content including The Weather Network’s unique “feels like” temperature indicator.
Travellers will also be able to download The Weather Network’s app and obtain accurate local forecasts up to 14 days ahead for 30,000 cities across the UK, as well as more than 65,000 locations internationally.
Tim Hufford, business development director for Eye Airports, said: “We can now provide passengers with relevant content as they embark on their outbound journeys.
With our expert insight into the alert and attentive mindset of our passengers, we can engage them positively with the brand and continue this connection via the app. We have recognised a real need to showcase relevant digital content in conjunction with pure play display advertising and this campaign embodies that synergy.”
Taylor Emerson, managing director of Europe for The Weather Network, said: “We aim to be the UK’s local weather service by delivering relevant information in relevant locations. We are delighted to be working with Eye Airports in rolling out this new campaign and look forward to further opportunities to customise information relevant to travellers. Providing dynamic, local weather information on the go is an essential service and part of the modern connected world.”
With more than 38 million passengers flying through Gatwick in 2014 and Stansted serving 20.6 million for the 12 months ending February 2015, there is huge scope for reaching audiences across Eye Airports’ vast national network. As a cornerstone of the Eye Airports estate, Manchester is the largest airport outside London with 22.19m annual passengers. This makes it the UK’s third busiest airport, on track to break its record of 22.42m, long before the start of the busy summer season. Manchester’s “Airport City” development will see £100 million invested in the surrounding infrastructure, offering a significant boost to the region’s economy and passenger numbers.
