EYE Airports offer the team a day every year to spend giving back to their local community.

Account Director Andrea Barton-Lawrence volunteered her time as a warehouse assistant and helped to support the daily running of Food Works Handsworth in Sheffield. Food Works save 500 tonnes of food a year from landfill, upcycling quality surplus and locally grown ingredients into delicious food and drink. They collect and share surplus food at their Market, and develop hyperlocal food production through community growing on their Farm.

After helping to carry out the morning deliveries as a driver assistant, Andrea collected all the food surplus from the supermarkets which was weighed and collated before being put into food boxes for the general public to purchase for a minimum donation of £1. At the end of the day, Andrea cleaned and mopped the warehouse and sorted the following day’s food for the next volunteers.

Andrea is now volunteering every 2/3 weeks and has become part of the Food Works mission to build a fair food system for all, bringing organisations and people together to build support networks in the local community.
